Hello all who read this,
I haven’t posted in a while, and since I am covering after school care, (watching the kids making sure no one dies) I decided to take a few minutes a post an update. It seems like everyone here is getting sick, that is why I am covering after school care. Please pray for the fast healing of all of our teachers and staff that are getting sick and please pray that no one else gets sick, specifically me. Haha.
All this month is Taste of the Marianas and every Saturday night this month, the best of the best restraints, mostly the resorts come together bring their best chefs, and open a booth to sell their most popular dishes. I didn’t take many pictures but below are a few that stuck out to me. The first one is some shrimp thing I assume who’s name is Shrimpy representing Bubba Gump Shrimp, which was opened by Forrest Gump. Next to “Shrimpy” is our PR Student Missionary Kim. The second picture is of a pig who’s name escapes me, but who kindly reminded me of why I choose the vegetarian life style. While there wasn’t much for me to eat, I really enjoyed the experience and will go back next Saturday night.
I have not been as busy as I usually am at the school, however in two weeks we have a series of religious meetings happening that the churches want to be hosted at the school, the last ones we had were in December. We host these meetings under our new covered porch and stage area, and the last time they wanted lights, I had a few short days to put something up. So I took wire and just ran it along the roof putting a standard light every few feet. It worked great and while I’m sure it was well within the usual fire code standards of Saipan for some reason, loose wire only held together by wire nuts is not within American codes and we apparently are held to the American Standards and not the Saipan ones. A few months ago we had a saftey inspection and I had to take out our old “dangerous” lights down and now that we have more meetings coming up,I have to install some more permanent light system that will not. “Fail” a saftey inspection. So that is my task over the next few days. The toughest part was finding a light that would work outdoors, in the rain and moisture, one that is high quality, and one that is a reasonable cost. Unfortunately we could only have two out of the three. Everything on the island is so expensive. But we found some that are weather resistant, price, and maybe a 70% on quality. Boy what I wouldn’t give for a Home Depot.
This is the light we ended up getting
In roughly 24 days I will be landing back in California! I am so excited to be coming home, even if it is for a short time, and technically it wont be my home anymore because I am returning to help my parents move to Arkansas. Leaving home the first time for me was really tough, but this time I will be leaving and it will no longer be my home to come back to. Nevertheless I am still very excited to see everyone and to go out for real authentic Taco Bell with everyone. I’m so excited I look at my digital reservation every few days just to check and make sure its still there.
