Good-bye Rio

I'm coming in on the last two days on the mainland, and I'm starting to get pretty excited. Everything is packed, (I hope) and I'm looking through my last bit of stuff to see if I need to ship anything by mail to avoid the 200 dollar minimum weight overage charge for luggage sent on the plane. Yes 200 dollars. Not something I want to deal with. Stupid airline...

As I leave I think I think about all the good times I have had working and living at Rio over the last 26 years. Thank-you to everyone who has helped me, supported me, taught me, and befriended me. You all have helped me become the person I am. Living in a place like Rio I have realized that the people who live here are not just co-workers, neighbors, and friends you all are like family. I will miss you all and I will miss working for/ with you, but am excited for my next adventure. Take care, stay in contact, and until next time Have a Happy Sabbath.

    $200?!?! Ridiculous. Dom and I can't wait to come and join you on your adventure! :) Explore every inch of the island so when we come and you can show us the neatest stuff!!! <3 I'm so excited to come and visit you and meet all your new friends and I know you are going to work hard and do a great thing there. Aunt Annie told me about the bucket you will have in the wall of your shower... Good Luck!!! Also in the video you have on the front page at like 7:30 it sounds like the song is singing your name and now I can't stop hearing it!!! :) Love you J!!!!

Cooking in Saipan

Everyone thinks that their mom is the best cook. But they are all wrong. Its true. My mom is literally the best cook. Except for maybe when she cooks quinoa, I can live without that. But seriously she really knows her way around the kitchen. Especially Mexican Food. She must have some Mexican ancestors. Those of you who have known me for longer than 5 minutes know that I love Taco Bell, and if you have been reading my blog you know that my first month here I ate at Taco Bell for virtually every meal. But all that changed when I realized I couldn't afford 15 dollars a day for food at Taco Bell so after I got settled I started cooking for myself. And its largely thanks to my mom that I am able to do that. Now I have always been able to cook. As far back as I can remember I have been able to pop a frozen burrito in the microwave and have it come out near perfect. Its a skill that is hard to find these days. As time went on I needed to learn to cook more complicated dishes. Like pastas...

1000 Days

I noticed today that it has been over a year since my last blog post, so I figured it was time to post an update. A lot has happened in the last year! First of all, I moved from Saipan and accepted a job working for the Micronesia Mission office in Guam. Second and even more exciting, I have a girlfriend! We met in Tennessee this last summer and I am so thankful that she is a part of my life. There will be future posts with stories and lessons I have learned in the last year, but for this post I want to focus on my last 1000 days as a missionary. It is hard to believe that it has been just over 1000 days since I first landed in Saipan almost 3 years ago. When I hit that milestone on Monday, I thought back to my first day on the island. The people were friendly and the trees and water were beautiful. There were brightly colored flowers everywhere! The sun was shining brightly and the air was fresh, and the only thing on my mind was….. How can I get home? Oh how I wanted to leave!...
