Forbidden Island

After church today I got to relax a bit and do some gaming with Stephen. I was a bit worried about the internet connection but everything played smoothly. What a great technological age we live in.

I'm writing this post from my phone in the church parking lot because I have nothing to do and home is like two minutes away and I felt I needed to prepare myself for the long trip home. Plus all I have at home is my computer, games movies... wait, what an I still doing here? Anyway I am in the church parking lot because we just got back from a hike to a place called Forbidden Island. The Islands Your group does a hike every now and then. It was a neat hike almost all downhill. Of course if you go down eventually you have to come back up.

This picture is from the half way point. It was a great day for a hike. We got to the bottom and did some exploring.

There was this one place that had a underwater cave like thing. It's usually pretty full.

After playing around here for a bit, the few of us that ventured off to the cave headed back to the group. We timed it pretty well, they were starting to leave right as we arrived. I had finished my water off by the time I got the bottom so I didn't have any for the trek up. Oops. The first part was no trouble for me but as it got steeper I got more exhausted. However I was challenged to go all the way without stopping for a rest and I didn't want to fail that challenge. I didn't know to the next time I would be able to attempt it again. Little did I know... After most of us made it to the top we got word that one of the people was having issues. I volunteered to run back down and discovered they were running low on water so I ran back up to refill the water bottles. When I got back down with the refilled bottles I was rewarded with a great view.

We got back to the church where everyone had parked, I had a bunch of people in the bed of the pickup. I guess they didn't care for my driving so much so I guess I need to think about putting some nice seat cushions back there or something.

Event though today had a lot of cool stuff. Some not so great stuff is happening and I would appreciate all the prayers I can get. Thanks for all your support and I hope things are going well in California or what ever part of the country and world you are reading this from. And if your at Rio and having tech trouble right before school, just unplug it and plug it back in. That should fix it. Well time to go. I'm starting to get hungry. Everyone have a blessed Sabbath.

Cooking in Saipan

Everyone thinks that their mom is the best cook. But they are all wrong. Its true. My mom is literally the best cook. Except for maybe when she cooks quinoa, I can live without that. But seriously she really knows her way around the kitchen. Especially Mexican Food. She must have some Mexican ancestors. Those of you who have known me for longer than 5 minutes know that I love Taco Bell, and if you have been reading my blog you know that my first month here I ate at Taco Bell for virtually every meal. But all that changed when I realized I couldn't afford 15 dollars a day for food at Taco Bell so after I got settled I started cooking for myself. And its largely thanks to my mom that I am able to do that. Now I have always been able to cook. As far back as I can remember I have been able to pop a frozen burrito in the microwave and have it come out near perfect. Its a skill that is hard to find these days. As time went on I needed to learn to cook more complicated dishes. Like pastas

1000 Days

I noticed today that it has been over a year since my last blog post, so I figured it was time to post an update. A lot has happened in the last year! First of all, I moved from Saipan and accepted a job working for the Micronesia Mission office in Guam. Second and even more exciting, I have a girlfriend! We met in Tennessee this last summer and I am so thankful that she is a part of my life. There will be future posts with stories and lessons I have learned in the last year, but for this post I want to focus on my last 1000 days as a missionary. It is hard to believe that it has been just over 1000 days since I first landed in Saipan almost 3 years ago. When I hit that milestone on Monday, I thought back to my first day on the island. The people were friendly and the trees and water were beautiful. There were brightly colored flowers everywhere! The sun was shining brightly and the air was fresh, and the only thing on my mind was….. How can I get home? Oh how I wanted to leave!
