Adventures from Sunday

Well I wanted to post this on Sunday while everything was fresh in my mind... but clearly that didn't happen. This time instead of writing from my awesome apartment I'm posting from a place called Mango 6. Its kinda a drink and food place, and yes they do server mangos. I originally came here to study. (wow never thought I'd say that again... or Ever...) I'm currently studying IT stuff, Networking to be specific, so I can try to get a job in the IT field when I return the the wonderful United States. The weekend was mostly uneventful. We had pathfinders on Sabbath and i taught the First Aid honor. The kids didn't seem interested but I don't really blame them. That's not their most interesting honor. The kids want the Video Gaming honor. Maybe we can create that one for them. Saturday night we went to a Chinese restaurant. The food was decent but they took forever bringing it out.

Sunday, I slept in. I think the longest I have slept in since I have been here. And let me tell you it feels great to sleep in until 8:00 am. After skying my family, I went did some exploring with some of the SMs here. we went to a place called Old Man by the Sea first. The hike down to it was beautiful. it reminding me of the movie Swiss Family Robinson. It was incredible. the beach itself was very pretty too, but I didn't see the Old Man.

The first picture is around the cliff side. I was taking some pictures of the waves crashing over the rocks. the Second picture is one of the bigger waves, The picture of me is after one of those bigger waves crashed over me soaking me and my phone. At least my phone still works though, but if it ever dies, the Pixel 2 did just come out..... Maybe I need to be a little less careful.

After that we went to a place called Jeffry's Beach and I think it is one of the most beautiful places I have been on the Island. You turn on to a small dirt road off the main road to get there and when we went it was muddy, I went through a few of the mud puddles no problem, then we saw a huge one in front of us. On of the SMs said "Maybe we should just I walk, I wouldn't do that if I were you." So I stopped and backed up a bit making him think I was going to listen, then gunned it. It was the most disappointing puddle of my life, the ground underneath was very well packed so the hope of getting stuck was lost. We got to the parking area and it didn't look like were were still on Saipan. It looked a little bit like some of the places I've been backpacking. I will hopefully get to go back on Friday as we have the day off. It's Citizenship Day, Saipan has so many holidays, you'd think everyone here was Jewish. But it does feel nice to have a day off once in a while.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them. Until next time, everyone have a great week.

Cooking in Saipan

Everyone thinks that their mom is the best cook. But they are all wrong. Its true. My mom is literally the best cook. Except for maybe when she cooks quinoa, I can live without that. But seriously she really knows her way around the kitchen. Especially Mexican Food. She must have some Mexican ancestors. Those of you who have known me for longer than 5 minutes know that I love Taco Bell, and if you have been reading my blog you know that my first month here I ate at Taco Bell for virtually every meal. But all that changed when I realized I couldn't afford 15 dollars a day for food at Taco Bell so after I got settled I started cooking for myself. And its largely thanks to my mom that I am able to do that. Now I have always been able to cook. As far back as I can remember I have been able to pop a frozen burrito in the microwave and have it come out near perfect. Its a skill that is hard to find these days. As time went on I needed to learn to cook more complicated dishes. Like pastas...

1000 Days

I noticed today that it has been over a year since my last blog post, so I figured it was time to post an update. A lot has happened in the last year! First of all, I moved from Saipan and accepted a job working for the Micronesia Mission office in Guam. Second and even more exciting, I have a girlfriend! We met in Tennessee this last summer and I am so thankful that she is a part of my life. There will be future posts with stories and lessons I have learned in the last year, but for this post I want to focus on my last 1000 days as a missionary. It is hard to believe that it has been just over 1000 days since I first landed in Saipan almost 3 years ago. When I hit that milestone on Monday, I thought back to my first day on the island. The people were friendly and the trees and water were beautiful. There were brightly colored flowers everywhere! The sun was shining brightly and the air was fresh, and the only thing on my mind was….. How can I get home? Oh how I wanted to leave!...
